Police threaten independent journalist
HAVANA, Cuba, November 17 (Roberto Santana
Rodríguez / www.cubanet.org) - Independent
journalist Richard Roselló was arrested
November 13 and taken to the Picota police
station in Old Havana, where two agents
of the Department of State Security threatened
him under the provisions of the "Gag"
law.
Roselló said police took his identification
when they arrested him Saturday morning
as he left home. After a wait at the police
station, Roselló said agent Moisés
and another agent whose name he doesn't
know told him that is exit visa has been
withheld and he won't be able to leave the
country. "We are preparing a case on
you based on Law 88, the "Gag"
law, and you might face 25 years in prison,"
Roselló said they told him.
Roselló has been an independent
journalist for some years now, reporting
on Cuban reality for CubaNet and other publications.
