HIV cases on the upswing in Pinar del Río

PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, November 8 (Rafael Ferro Salas, Abdala Press / www.cubanet.org) - The number of HIV cases reported in Pinar del Río province went from 9 at this time last year to 15, the head of the prevention and control of sexually transmitted diseases program, Dr. Niel Acosta, told the weekly El Guerrillero.

Acosta said that 11 of the 15 are homosexual men. He also said that 112 people have died since the first case of HIV was detected in the province, 80% of them men.

In total, there are now 255 patients who are HIV positive in Pinar del Río.
