Food poisoning in middle school affects 40 students

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, October 27 (Belkis Rodríguez Bravo, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - At least 40 students at the "Carlos Casalle" middle school in Santo Domingo, Villa Clara province, reported being afflicted by food poisoning as a result of a decomposing snack given to them at the school October 23.

The first six cases were taken to the local polyclinic after suffering from diarrhea, convulsions and vomiting.

Family members of some of the students said they had been given a snack of soy bean yogurt and a sandwich.

Since the beginning of the school year, the Ministry of Education has been distributing "the Commander in Chief's snacks" to middle school children in order to keep them in school for most of the day as part of the Battle of Ideas.
