Art student expelled for anti-government
poster
SANTA CLARA, Cuba, May 24 (Cubanacán
Press / www.cubanet.org) - Officials at
the Art Teachers' School in Villa Clara
expelled a 16-year-old student for producing
a poster in which could be read in big,
bold letters, Down with Fidel. Observers
say the whole affair has been handled very
quietly.
First-year student Yasmani Oliva presumably
acknowledged that he had drawn the poster
at the school. Officials handed him over
to his mother, to take him home until he
is summoned to a minors' reeducation center.
The Art Teachers' School has approximately
2,000 students in Music, Dance, Theater,
and Painting and Sculpture. Admission is
said to be very selective.
