Violin stolen from Strauss' statue in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, March 5 (Ariel Delgado Covarrubias / www.cubanet.org) - Thieves took the bronze violin from the statue of Johann Strauss in the Havana park named after the Viennese musician, but were apprehended as they made their getaway along Línea Street.

The statue has been taken down and is being repaired, said a park custodian.

The statue was donated to Havana by the city of Vienna in March, 2002, and is a replica of the one in the Stadtpark, a popular photographic destination in the Austrian capital.

A few months ago, a statue of John Lennon situated in a park about a mile away lost its glasses twice.
