Prostitutes arrested in Havana and Pinar
del Rio
HAVANA, Jan. 26 (www.cubanet.org) - More
than 40 prostitutes plus their pimps have
been arrested in roundups in Havana and
Pinar del Rio.
The arrests in Havana occurred Jan. 16
in the municipality of El Cerro where more
than 20 prostitutes were picked up.
According to residents of the area, the
women came from the interior and did not
even have the necessary residents' permits
to allow them to live in the capital. The
residents had complained to authorities
about the illicit trafficking at the intersection
of Primelles and Santa Catalina Avenue.
Reports from Pinar del Rio said more than
40 prostitutes, between the ages of 17 and
20, were also arrested there and were sentenced
to two to four years for harassing tourists.
Their pimps were reported to have been sentenced
to six years.
The sentences were to be carried out in
the "Jardín" agricultural
prison.
