Fine levied in Cuba against owner of home-made satellite dish

HAVANA, January 16 (www.cubanet.org) - Police seized a home-made satellite television dish this week and fined the owner 1,000 pesos, more than the equivalent of four months' salary.

Neighbors in Havana's 10 de Octubre district said two police agents dressed in civilian clothes and a member of the block's Committee for the Defense of the Revolution warned the owner: "This is the first time. If you do it again, the penalty will be more severe."

Similar incidents have been reported in other parts of Cuba as the government tries to prevent citizens from capturing foreign television signals.
