Families of Cuban imprisoned dissidents seek signatures on a petition requesting amnesty

HAVANA, Sept. 11 (www.cubanet.org) -Families and friends of 75 dissidents imprisoned last April have prepared for signature a petition asking for amnesty for them.

According to Article 63 of the Cuban Constitution, a request from citizens for a law needs a petition signed by 10,000 people.

Said Laura Pollán, wife of jailed dissident journalist Héctor Masenda, who's serving a 20-year sentence: "Many of those who have seen the text of the petition recognize its essentially humanitarian, non politicized character."
