Cuban dissident prisoner to be tried for insulting an official re-educator

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb. 9 (www.cubanet.org) - Ailing dissident Miguel Galbán Gutiérrez, serving a 26-year sentence for anti-government activities, will face a disciplinary court on charges he insulted an official re-educator, according to members of his family.

Galbán Gutiérrez is charged with insulting official re-educator Yosvani Gainza, whom he is accused of calling a thief and a lackey of Fidel Castro.

Galbán's sister, Teresa, who made a 300-mile trip from Havana to the Agüica prison in Matanazas province, said Galbán Gutiérrez is being denied telephone calls and contact with church representatives.

Commenting on the health of Galbán Gutiérrez , an officer of the political police named Peñate said the prisoner's condition is a result of prolonged fasting. He suffers from diarrhea and inflamed joints.
