Cuban police confiscate merchandise from itinerant vendors

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, December 14 (Diolexys Rodríguez Hurtado, Cubanacán Press / www.cubanet.org) - Police and price inspectors in Santa Clara confiscated merchandise offered for sale by self-employed street vendors.

The series of raids started early Monday and extended for most of the morning. Authorities said it was part of the campaign against "illegalities. They confiscated pork, fish, noodles, chicken parts, oil, eggs, vegetables and sundry other produce.

Those arrested were fined between 750 and 1,500 pesos.
