Claim against power company unresolved after five years

HAVANA, September (www.cubanet.org) - A man who filed a claim with the local power company in Villa Clara province for damages sustained by some domestic appliances has still not been totally paid after five years.

The man, Reynaldo Méndez, who lives in Santa Clara, says an overvoltage in the electric lines damaged a fan and five fluorescent lamps at his home in Santa Clara. He said he immediately filed a claim with the company.

Two years later, the company finally replaced the five fluorescent lamps, taking them from their own stock.

The fan, however, is a different story. After appealing to the company director, a man named Sentado, the fan was sent to the Servi-Hogar government-run repair facility, where technicians concluded that the fan was in such sorry condition that it would be more economical to replace rather than repair.

Director Sentado gave Méndez a purchase order for a fan. By this time, it was three years after the high voltage situation.

Today, five years after the incident, Méndez is still waiting for a fan. Company managers say there is no money to buy a new one every time the question comes up.
