Cuban Technicians to Work in the Country

A total of 291 Doctors and Nurses and 15 Professors
to train trainers will work in the country, according
to a protocol signed by the Governments of Angola
and Cuba during a meeting on Thursday.
At the ceremony, held on Monday, the Angolan
Social Welfare Minister Joao Baptista Kussumua,
and the Cuban Minister of Education for Higher
Teaching, Fernando Vecino Alefret, also signed
a protocol on the 11th Angola/Cuba Bilateral Commission,
plus a trade agreement that will serve to implement
development programs in both countries.
Another agreement signed refers to the protection
of plants and was rubricated by the National Director
of Agriculture, Claudio J·lio, and by the
Cuban Vice-Minister for Foreign Investment, Eduardo
Santos Canalejo.
In the protocol on bilateral commission is included
the balance of the last session, which took place
in Cuba, in 2000.
The coming of Cuban lecturers to the Angolan
Public University is subject to negotiations with
the Cuban company Antex, in order to determine
the number of workers to come, well as their working
conditions.
The two sides agreed that the 12th Session of
Bilateral Commission will be held in Havana (Cuba),
during the second half of 2005.
At the end of the ceremony, Minister Kussumua
admitted that, after the signing of those documents,
the economic, scientific and cultural relations
will be reinforced. The meeting started on Tuesday
and Minister Jo'o Baptista Kussumua heads the
Angolan delegation that also includes the Vice-Minister
of Education, Pinda Sim'o, and a number technicians.
The Cuban mission is headed by the Minister of
Education for Higher Teaching, Mr Fernando Vecino
Alegret, and integrates the Deputy-Minister for
Foreign Investment, Eduardo Santos Canalejo, among
experts from various ministries.
The bilateral relations between Angola and Cuba
were established, formally, in July 29th, 1976.
