Camagüey eviction appears violent and unjustified

HAVANA, September 3 (www.cubanet.org) - Police launched a Rambo-style assault on a private home, climbing walls and dropping down from the roof, just to evict its occupants August 26.

The owner of the home, Alexis Pérez, was not home at the time of the assault; only his son and mother-in-law were in when police broke the access door to the patio.

Enrique López, a local human rights activist, said Pérez does not lead an ostentatious lifestyle. "This is the second eviction in what appears to be a wave," said López. "Pérez has legal title to the house, so we don't understand why the family was evicted and taken to alternative housing outside the city."
