inspector fines Cuban ex-political prisoner
HAVANA, Cuba, August 28 (www.cubanet.org) - An
ex-political prisoner fined August 22 for building
violations says he finds it odd that the fine
comes on the heels of a workshop on civil disobedience
he organized for a dissidents' group that meets
in the city's Central Park.
The 300 peso fine was levied against Enry Saumell
for construction of an illegal bath by inspector
Roberto Herrera, who also threatened to have the
improvement removed.
Saumell is the president of a dissident group
and was jailed for more than six months in Valle
Grande prison without ever going to trial.
