- The political prisoner Jorge Luis García
Pérez "Antúnez",
has been confined to a punishment cell in
the Prison of Ariza, County of Cienfuegos
since September 19th- denounced his sister,
Bertha Antúnez Pernet via telephone
to The Cuban Democratic Directorate.
On September 17 the prisoner lead an act
of protest in the prison's dining room,
for the abuses and inhumane conditions the
prisoners are being subjected to and for
the humiliating searches performed on their
families.
According to information sent out of the
prison secretly by Antúnez himself,
prison officials confined him to a punishment
cell filled with lime and sand, situation
that seriously aggravates his present breathing
deficiency.
The officers that ordered Antúnez
attack were: a second unit official by the
name of Jorge, an official in charge of
the State Security Unit at the Prison that
goes by the name of Lázaro and Rojas
Nardo, an official of the interior order.
Antúnez's family is demanding that
authorities move him to a regular cell since
he suffers from a respiratory deficiency
due to a nodule in his left lung, for which
he is not receiving any medical attention.
The Cuban Democratic Directorate calls
for urgent solidarity actions from international
human rights organizations and all democratic
governments of the world in the case of
this Cuban political prisoner.
