Sixteen arrested in Cuba for stealing boats and equipment

HAVANA, Dec. 5 (www.cubanet.org) - Police arrested eight watchmen and nine accomplices, accused of stealing fishing boats and navigational equipment from a warehouse in the port of Batabano.

State security agents last week found 90 stolen boats, some submerged in water near Playa de Cajío, about six miles from Batabano. Two compasses were also found, but 13 remain missing.

A source at the warehouse said the loss of the compasses prevented 13 fishing boats from going out in search of lobster.
