Political prisoner appeals on behalf of abused prisoners at Guantánamo

(GUANTÁNAMO/CUBA/ May 22/Puenteinfocubamiami.org) - In a concealed note taken out of the Combinado de Guantánamo dated May 13th, political prisoner Randy Cabrera Mayor appeals to all human rights organizations on behalf of prisoners brutally beaten by Major Pablo Reyes Cobas, Chief of Discipline and First Lieutenant Rogelio, also know as "El Chino", officers with the penal system at Combinado de Guantánamo.

According to the note, political prisoners Jorge Alvarez Sánchez, Jorge Luis Larrazábal Zulueta and Ernesto Lucas Corral Cabrera, are beaten frequently by these officers at Combinado de Guantánamo. Medical attention for their wounds is also denied.

Common prisoners Juan Carlos Balón Céspedes, Yolennis Noel Ruiz, 19 years old and 23 years old Alberto González Triana are also frequently beaten. The physical integrity of these three prisoners is in jeopardy for they have no family.

On November 30th, 1996, Randy Cabrera Mayor was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the supposed crime of illegal exit from national territory and evasion.
