HAVANA, May 22 (Caridad Cristina Alvarez, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) -
Officials of the Ministry of Culture sold three times as many tickets as the
Amadeo Roldán theater has seats for a popular concert on May 18,
provoking a public disturbance before curtain time.
Reports by eyewitnesses said disturbances started almost as soon as people
started coming in.
"The doors of the Amadeo Roldán, one of the biggest theaters in
the capital, opened at 7:47 p. m. and thats when people started pushing
and shoving and swearing at each other," said one attendee. There was at
least one fist fight among people arguing about seats.
Ushers tried to tell people that a ticket guaranteed them admission but not
a seat.
The concert featured some of the most popular current artists, including
Carlos Varela, Pedro Luis Ferrer, and Polito Ibáñez. Tickets were
sold at 10 pesos each.
