HAVANA, May 22 (José Izquierdo, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) -
Cuban customs officials confiscated two boxes of cigars from outbound traveler
Dunierki Herrera, 22, before he boarded a plane at Havana's international
airport.
Herrera said he was taking the cigars as gifts for relatives in the U. S.
and he showed the appropriate paperwork to the officials, including the receipt,
which showed he had paid 60 dollars for them.
The price paid translates to 1,560 pesos or over six months' wages for the
average Cuban worker.
Herrera said officials told him he could not take the cigars out of the
country without "coming up with a convincing explanation."
