Police detain independent journalists outside U.S. Interests section

HAVANA, May 16 (Ernesto Roque, Grupo Decoro) - Agents of the National Revolutionary Police detained two journalists from the independent Habana Press agency as they left the U. S. Interests Section in Havana May 13, one day after the arrival of U. S. former president Jimmy Carter.

Journalists Miguel Galbán Gutiérrez and Dorka de Céspedes were searched and questioned by agents, who seized copies of U. S. published, Spanish-language newspaper Diario Las Américas.

"All the agents read the newspapers, more with curiosity than with official interest, and they returned them when they were instructed by radio to let us go," said Galbán.

The journalists were held for approximately 20 minutes.
