Public transport company shuts down in central Cuban town

HAVANA, May 10 (Juan Carlos Linares, Cuba-Verdad / www.cubanet.org) - The bus company in Aguada de Pasajeros, a small city near the provincial capital of Cienfuegos, shut down as a result of the chronic scarcity of fuel, idling workers and leaving one bus running to transport the sick and take care of other emergencies.

"Some of the former workers said they didn’t know when the company would resume operations. In addition, they complained they didn’t get any severance to tide them over until they find other employment," said local correspondent Ramón Medina.

"Residents have been reduced to asking for rides on the highway, mostly from freight trucks," concluded Medina.
