Jailed journalist denied same privileges as other prisoners

HAVANA (José Antonio Fornaris/Cuba-Verdad / www.cubanet.org) – Jailed independent journalist Carlos Alberto Domínguez is only allowed to meet with family members for 30 minutes every three weeks while other prisoners can meet for two hours, according to Domínguez's wife, María González.

She said the last time she went to Havana's Valle Grande jail she was told her husband had been moved and no longer appeared on the list, which prompted their 12-year-old daughter, Greta, to break down in tears.

"They're trying to cause all types of problems and making prison life more difficult for Carlos Alberto," she told colleagues.

Domínguez was arrested February 23 when he left Sacred Heart Church after mass in memory of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attack in New York. He was covering the mass as a reporter as well as communicant.
