HAVANA, June 26 (José Izquierdo, Grupo de Trabajo Decoro /
www.cubanet.org) - At least 70 families in Güines, a town south of Havana,
still wait for relief promised them after Hurricane Michelle last year.
Residents of the "Roberto Rodríguez" subdivision, one of
the worst affected, said there were two houses that were completely demolished
by the hurricane, and to date, nothing has been done for the occupants. One
family has been living in a metal container.
"Communists have always done well with their bureaucracy, but they
should be ashamed that women and children live in improvised housing or in a
container, while millions are spent in luxury hotels," said resident Sabino
Rodríguez.
Lately, Güines residents have been waiting for a visit by the president
of the local government, Luis Mesa Roque, to deliver on the governments
promised aid.
