Independent journalist’s phone disconnected

NUEVA GERONA, June 24 (Carlos Serpa Maceira, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - The political police in Camagüey, in conjunction with the Cuban phone company ETECSA, has disconnected independent journalist Normando Hernández’ phone.

Hernández says the interruption in service is politically motivated since he has always paid his phone bill on time.

"The line’s been dead since June 15, the date when the process of signing the so-called Constitutional modification project was called by Fidel Castro," said Hernández.

ETECSA is a joint venture between Italian capital and the Cuban government.

Hernández is the president of the Independent Journalists Association in Camagüey.
