CAMAGUEY, June 7 (Ramón Hugo Armas Guerrero, ACP / www.cubanet.org) -
Two masked men shot Andrés Alegre five times at approximately 7:00 a.m.
May 31 in an apparent attempt to steal his German-made ETZ-251 motorcycle.
The shooting on busy 25 de Julio Street caused a commotion and panic among
arriving students of a secondary school and a child care center nearby.
The two assailants fled after their unsuccessful attempt to take the
motorcycle. Residents and passersby managed to hold one and a quick police
dragnet through the immediate vicinity captured the other. They were only
identified as Mario and William.
Alegre, a 48-year-old engineer with the provincial oil company of Camagüey,
died on the scene a few minutes after being shot.
