Angolan president to visit Cuba

LUANDA, Sep 19 (AFP) - Angola's veteran President Jose Eduardo dos Santos is to embark on a three-day official visit to long-time ally Cuba on Wednesday, state media reported.

Dos Santos, who rarely travels outside Angola, is due to hold talks with senior officials in Havana on issues such as tourism and energy cooperation, the Angop news agency said.

He will then go on to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly on September 25 and 26.

Cuba and Angola have long ties which date back to the 1975-2003 Angolan civil war when President Fidel Castro sent troops to fight on behalf of dos Santos's regime.
