Diseased swine destroyed in central Cuba
HAVANA, March 2 (Moisés Leonardo
Rodríguez) - Agricultural health
officials have been destroying diseased
swine in the area of Cabaiguán, in
the central Cuban province of Sancti Spíritus
since mid February.
A local resident, Pastor Ibrahim Pina,
said authorities have been examining the
animals and that the ones determined to
be diseased are incinerated.
Officials first tried to use drugs to combat
the disease, said Pina, but after they proved
ineffective, they undertook the eradication
program. Authorities have not announced
the name or nature of the disease, said
Pina.
