Three hold up payroll clerk in Havana outskirts

HAVANA, February 25 (www.cubanet.org) - Three masked persons held up the payroll clerk for the privately-owned ornamentals nursery La Begonia in Santiago de las Vegas, just outside of Havana, as she left home in the early hours yesterday, taking almost 20,000 pesos.

The assailants shoved the woman and beat up the driver who accompanied her, who had to be taken to the hospital.

The 20,000 pesos constituted the monthly payroll for the nursery's 100 employees. The nursery is owned by one Federico Wagner, and is one of very few small businesses in private hands in Cuba.
