PINAR DEL RÍ0, February 25 (Víctor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI /
www.cubanet.org) - A man who reportedly had broken out of jail and left the
country in 1994 was arrested February 22 while visiting relatives here.Juan
Alberto Hernández is said to have been serving a 7 year sentence at the "Combinado
de Sandino" prison for theft and slaughter of cattle when he skipped out
and left the country by raft in 1994.
He arrived in Cuba legally February 13 from Miami, where he now lives. He
was arrested as he traveled in a car with relatives by State Security officer
Juan Antonio Pérez, and National Police officer Epifanio Alvarado.
A local human rights activist, Horacio Piña, pointed out that very
frequently people in Hernández' situation visit the island and the
authorities don't bother them.
