PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, February 12 (Victor Rolando Arroyo, UPECI / www.cubanet.org) - Cattle rustling is on the rise in Pinar del Rio province.

Farmers report that an average of more than 12 animals a day are being taken, between cows, bulls and horses. Remains have been found of animals slaughtered and butchered for their meat.

The municipality of San Juan y Martinez reported a 69 percent increase in rustling in the first half of January, compared to the same period in 2002.
