The Cuban Human Rights Foundation of Isla de Pinos demanded the unconditional
release of Human Rights activist Dr. Oscar Elías Biscet, who has been
serving time for the past two months for his arbitrary incarceration by Castro's
political police.
Oppositionists Lázaro Ricardo Pérez García, Juan Rojas
Llanos, Alfredo Hernández García, Carlos González Rojas
and an independent journalist with UPECI Carlos Serpa Maceira, waived a Cuban
flag and held signs reading "Freedom for Doctor Biscet and Freedom without
Exile for Cuban Political Prisoners". This took place on the street at "calle
30 e/ 51 y 53" in the city of Nueva Gerona.
This act of civil disobedience was organized Cuban Human Rights Foundation
of Isla de Pinos together with the groups "Plantados hasta la Libertad y
la Democracia", the Democracy Party Pedro Luis Boitel and the Cuban Human
Rights Foundation in Florida, Camagüey, in support of the international
campaign launched by the Lawton Foundation of Human Rights and the "Presidio
Político Histórico Cubano" for the release of Biscet, who is
currently being held in "Combinado del Este", a maximum severity
prison located on the outskirts of the Cuban capitol.
In support of said campaign, the Cuban Human Rights Foundation of Isla de
Pinos has held fasts, vigils and workshops relating to civil disobedience.
Officials from the Department of State Security, Vladimir Redoslao and Alexei,
where monitoring the area in a repressive attitude.
