HAVANA, February 4 (Alicia Zamora Labrada, Lux Info Press / www.cubanet.org)
- Evelio Argote Gómez was denied a job as an agricultural helper in a
sugar mill after he admitted he knew Human Rights activists in the area.
Argote was interviewed by Norberto Rosales Morales, the deputy director in
charge of human resources at the Dos Ríos sugar mill, in Palma Soriano,
eastern Cuba. During the 20-minute interview, Rosales asked Argote whether he
knew about the "supposed Human Rights groups." When Argote
acknowledged that he did, Rosales lost his composure, and yelled that no "worms"
[derogatory term applied in Cuba to counterrevolutionaries] could work at the
sugar mill, only those who sacrificed for the Revolution.
Argote is actually a member of the Civic Movement for Democracy.
