GÜINES, September 4 (José Izquierdo, Grupo Decoro /
www.cubanet.org) - After more than two weeks without water, administrators at
the 'Aleida Fernández general hospital took up a collection among
employees to pay for necessary repairs to the water pump supplying the hospital.
The pump quit working August 17 and municipal health officials were not able
to provide a solution to the problem. Hospital administrators then assembled
employees and asked them for the money to buy the needed parts in the black
market. Hospital director José Felipe Marín told employees the
local government did not have the money to make needed repairs.
The collection yielded the 100 pesos that bought the parts.
"We have become accomplices of people who act in the black market. This
is incredible," said hospital electrician Frank Rodríguez.
