HAVANA, September 2 (Lux Info Press /www.cubanet.org) - Tomás Poll
Fernández, a laborer at the América Latina Citrus Enterprise, in
Contramaestre, Santiago de Cuba province, complains that promised incentives
have not been available for three months at the designated store.
The incentives, items such as soap, cooking oil, and work clothes, are
normally unavailable in markets. Workers who meet production quotas are awarded
"bonuses," consisting of the right to buy some of these items in
specially-designated stores.
Polls complaint is that when the bonuses are awarded, the merchandise
is not available in the stores, rendering the bonuses a farce.
A group of workers of the "Romárico Durán" basic
unit of sugar cane production recently transferred to the "América
Latina" looking to improve their situation. Now the workers, led by Juan
Carlos Matos, say they are looking for another job where they will have real
possibilities of acquiring basic products in these "incentive stores."
