Bus service cut back for lack of fuel

GÜINES, July 25 (José Izquierdo, Grupo Decoro / www.cubanet.org) - Residents of building 9, in the development zone of Güines, a town south of Havana, fear the structure is in imminent danger of collapsing, yet won’t abandon their homes, saying they have nowhere else to go.

CAMAGÜEY, July 25 (Normando Hernández, CPIC / www.cubanet.org) - The frequency of bus service between the town of Miraflores Nuevo and adjoining communities was cut down 17 days ago due to lack of fuel.

Local resident Marisa Álvarez, the director of the independent library in town, said that where before there were five daily departures, now there are only two.

Transportation officials only say that lack of fuel is the cause of the cutbacks.

The reduction in transportation affects most severely those who must travel to nearby Bolívar and Morón for medical treatment.

The town of Miraflores Nuevo was founded by ex-political prisoners and their families.
