HAVANA, August 5 ( Regina del Sol y Alejandro Hernández, AIDH /
www.cubanet.org) - On the walls of the "Yunier Duménico"
school, in Placetas, Villa Clara province, someone has written "Down with
Fidel" and "Death to the Dictator."
A few days ago, police arrested a local dissident, Juan Antonio Soto, 62. He
reportedly acknowledged being the author of the graffiti and was held from 3
p.m. to 11 p.m. Police released him with a warning not to participate in
anti-government demonstrations on August 5, the anniversary of street
demonstrations that took place in Havana in 1994.
The morning of the 5th, there were eight Department of State Security
officers around Soto's home, reminding him not to leave the house that day.
