HAVANA, December 14 (Carlos Alberto Domínguez, Cuba-Verdad /
www.cubanet.org) - A Mass was held December 11 in Havanas cathedral in
memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11 in New York and
Washington.
Cubas youngest priest, Father Geovanny Carvajal, 26, officiated at the
Mass attended by parishioners, dissidents, and Canadian and Costa Rican
tourists.
In his homily, Fr. Carvajal referred to the "sad and tragic events in
which thousands lost their lives." He later added, "We have to go
forth toward peace, in search of truth and forgiveness."
After the ceremony, Fr. Carvajal asked about the dissidents
activities, welcomed them to the church and agreed to have his picture taken
with them.
Outside the cathedral, several dissidents observed a moment of silence for
the dead of the twin towers and the Pentagon.
