Building collapse in Havana leaves several dead

HAVANA, December 6 (Regina del Sol and Alejandro Hernández, AIDH / www.cubanet.org) - At least five people died and three were injured yesterday morning when a condemned apartment building collapsed in central Havana.

Among the dead were a young girl, her mother, and another woman who was pregnant.

Last October the 43 families living in the building had been assigned to shelters after the building partially collapsed (Derrumbe en Centro Habana provoca contusiones a una anciana / AIDH) and was condemned. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the victims were former tenants who had returned or squatters.
