More than 1000 cases of dengue in pediatric
hospital
HAVANA, Cuba - September 15 (Odelin Alfonso
Torna / www.cubanet.org) - More than 1000
children have been admitted to the Dr. Ángel
Arturo Aballí pediatric hospital
in the Arroyo Naranjo municipality of Havana,
according to sources that asked to remain
nameless.
The hospital has been put under quarantine,
the sources said. Dengue patients from all
areas of the city are being transferred
to this hospital.
On the average, 50 cases of the fever are
admitted every day; 12 additional wards
have been opened and there are beds on the
hallways.
About 40 cases are reported to be in serious
condition in intensive care wards.
Relatives of the children are complaining
that meals take time being served; lunch
has been served as late as 2:30 to 3:30
pm, and supper as late as 9 pm due to strained
resources.
Most of the patients at the hospital come
from the municipalities of Habana del Este,
San Miguel del Padrón, Cerro, Centro
Habana, Habana Vieja, and Arroyo Naranjo.
The municipalities outside the city but
still in Havana province with the higher
indices of dengue cases are Mariel, Guanajay,
and Artemisa.
