School Not Ready, Say Parents and Students
MATANZAS, Cuba, September 12 (Oscar Sánchez
Madan / www.cubanet.org) - Students of the
Franklin Gómez secondary school and
their parents complain that the school,
a live-in facility in Jagüey Grande,
central Cuba, is not ready to begin the
school year.
They say that when around 300 students
arrived September 2, they found the facility
run down, dirty, and lacking the necessities
for lodging the students. There were beds
missing in several of the dorms, and in
others there were beds without matresses.
As a result a number of students slept on
the floor, they said.
Also, they said numerous windows were broken.
Some of the parents also complained that
they had witnessed students smoking and
drinking rum with members of the staff.
Education authorities said they had already
addressed the matter.
