Forestry workers are paid late - again

CAMAGÜEY, Cuba – May 22 (Marilyn Díaz Fernández, Lux Info Press / www.cubanet.org) – The employees of the Sibanicú Integrated Forestry Company were paid their salaries for the month of April on May 17, 12 days after they expected it.

Salary is stipulated to be paid on the 5th of every month, but for the last few months the workers have received their monthly pay several days late, provoking hardship among them.

Workers say they have heard the salaries are paid late because the government-owned company doesn't have the money, but, said one: "The bosses will not face us and explain. They don't pay on time, and that's it."

Other concerns also habitually delay payment to their employees, among them the ministries of health and education, and the Triangle 2 Cattle Enterprise. This last has in some cases not paid workers for up to three months at a time.
