Dissident criticizes conditions at Guines provincial jail

HAVANA, March 17 (Roberto Santana Rodríguez / www.cubanet.org) - Santiago Adrían Palomo of the dissident November 30 Democratic Party says conditions in the Guines provincial jail are worse than those the Cuban government alleges about the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay.

"Let the international community know that the inhuman procedures the Cuban government says are committed at the Guantanamo naval base are not worse than those committed at the Guines provincial jail," Palomo said in a letter to party president Ada Kaly Márquez Abascal.

Palomo said prisoners at the Guines jail suffer physical and mental torture, are threatened and are the object of reprisals. He said medical attention is deficient and the meals poor.
