Two cases of AIDS detected in Cuban prison

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, February 25 (Aris Arias/Santiago Press / www.cubanet.org) - A medical survey carried out at the Mar Verde prison in the city of Santiago de Cuba detected two inmates who have been infected with the AIDS virus.

A medical team performed blood tests December 23 at the prison looking to detect venereal diseases. Two inmates, Osmel Velásquez and Ademoine Silva, tested positive for AIDS, they said.

On January 6, the team performed another round of tests on all inmates who said they had had contact with the infected inmates, who were said to be bisexual and active in the prison.
