Two Cuban officials fired for corruption
HAVANA, March 23 (María López,
Lux Info Press / www.cubanet.org) - At least
two officials of the Urban Housing office
in the Plaza municipality of Havana were
fired after a probe by the police's Investigative
Department revealed widespread corruption.
Workers at the office were told the chief
of inspectors and the chief of rents had
been fired at a meeting called to introduce
their replacements.
The corruption at the housing office is
a reflection of the chronic housing shortage
on the island, which predisposes clients
to pay bribes to satisfy their needs.
