Cuban independent journalist and her 16-year-old daughter attacked

HAVANA, Jan. 26 (www.cubanet.org) - Independent journalist María López says she and her 16-year-old daughter, Idaima Paz, were attacked Friday night when they left a movie house in Old Havana.

"A white man about 30 years old attacked me," she said. "I didn't see any knife in his hands but he caused a deep gash."

The wound required 12 stitches to close. He daughter suffered a sprained right foot and bruises when she tried to defend her mother. The pair was taken to the Miguel Enrique Hospital.

López, president of the Lux Info Press agency, reported the incident to the police station at Dragones and Zulueta.
