Trial of three Cuban dissidents suspended

- The trial of dissidents Raúl Arencibia
Fajardo, Orlando Zapata Tamayo and Virgilio
Morante Guelmes was suspended this year
as it was about to begin.
The three were accused of public disorder
of arrests which occurred Dec. 6, 2002,
in the home of Arencibia Fajardo where a
human rights meeting was scheduled. Seventeen
dissidents present, including Dr. Oscar
Elías Biscet, were arrested.
Prosecutor Edelmira Pedris Yumar had asked
for sentences of three years each for the
trio.
Their lawyer, Amelia Rodríguez Cala,
was advised of the suspension. No reason
was given.
