Cuban pacifist dissident threatened with
job loss
HOLGUIN, Cuba, January 13 (www.cubanet.org)
- Isidoro Batista Pupo, activist in the
Christian Liberation Movement, was recently
threatened with the loss of his government
job on the grounds he was a counter-revolutionary
and wasn't paying union dues.
Luis Manuel Hernández, an instructor
in the Communist Party, called a meeting
of party officials and the government labor
union at the Health Department where Batista
Pupo works to discuss his case and determine
his firing.
However, co-workers said that Batista Pupo
was a good worker, although not a member
of the labor union.
No decision was made at the meeting, but
Hernández warned Batista Pupo that
he faced sanctions if he continued anti-government
activities.
