Kampala - Cuba has offered five professors to teach technical programmes at the 2-year old Kyambogo University over the next two years, reports Geresom Musamali.

Cuba has also offered three more professors to teach at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). At least 10 Cuban professors have already been supporting teaching programmes at MUST since it was started about 10 years ago.

Tom Butime, state minister for foreign affairs, said during the 45th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution on Wednesday that under a protocol signed between Cuba and Uganda in October last year.

Butime said there was wide co-operation between Cuba and Uganda in the fields of education, agriculture and medicine, among others. He said Cuba was interested in importing black beans from Uganda.

"Very soon we shall have five other Cuban professors to teach at Kyambogo. I was in Havana last year to discuss with Cuba further co-operation," he said.
