(HAVANA, Cuba, / January 8 / Puenteinfocubamiami.org)
- On July 2, 1999, I was intercepted in
the East Coast of Havana by members of the
Cuban political police, while attempting
to pick up my family and bring them with
me to the United States. My family never
arrived at the rendezvous point and later
I learned that the Cuban political police
had my family arrested 4 hours before I
reached the Cuban shore.
I was tried and sentenced to 20 years in
prison for the supposed crime of "illegal
traffic of humans".
At the present time I am serving my sentence
at the prison Combinado del Este, 4th floor
North, building #2 company 2408, my personal
interest is for this to be sent to all human
rights international organisms as an accusation
for all the human rights violations they
have so far inflicted on me since August
7, 2003.
I have a Dermatitis herpetiforme of the
diurin", a bad intestinal absorption,
corroborated by two biopsies, a very high
arterial hypertension for which I have to
take 75 ml of cartoprin on a daily basis.
Doctors have prescribed me a special diet
due to my precarious health but prison official
refuse to provide me with the proper diet.
Since August 7, 2003 to this date, November
12, 2003, prison officials have refused
to give me my medications and stopped giving
me any food at all. I have tried speaking
with prison officials to no avail.
One year ago I was taken to the legal medical
commission and the verdict was that in spite
of all my illnesses, I was physically compatible
with the penitentiary regime for I was not
terminally ill.
I want that a copy of my testimonial be
sent to all human rights organizations,
newspapers and radio stations in the free
World for I want them to know the abuses
I am being subjected to in the Cuban prisons.
Gilberto Granda Tamayo, a resident of the
United States.
My address in the United State is:
453 W.25 Place.
Hialeah, Fl. 33010
