Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello has serous health problems

HAVANA, January 7 (www.cubanet.org) - Reports from the Carlos J. Finlay military hospital say that dissident Martha Beatriz Roque Cabello, serving a 20-year prison sentence, is facing serious health problems.

A leading promoter of civil society in Cuba, Roque Cabello has been diagnosed with uterine cancer but, according to medical personnel in the hospital, tests have not been carried out to determine the best drugs to use to combat the disease.

As well, Roque Cabello is suffering from diabetes, inflamed salivary glands and arthritis.

She was among 75 dissidents sentenced last April during a crackdown on government opponents and moved from prison to the hospital as her health worsened.
